The ELERTS™ Story

ELERTS™ was founded by a group of 1st Responders and Software Entrepreneurs who believed that emergency communications systems could be dramatically improved if they took advantage of smart phone technology and the power of the growing social media movement.

ELERTS™ saw the flaws in the existing systems: many rely on outdated methods such as reverse 911 that miss 25- 50% of the population without landlines; most use text and verbal-only messaging, when pictures can be much more effective; the majority are primarily one-way, missing the opportunity for people on the scene to provide valuable feedback.

The founders of ELERTS™ saw a huge un-tapped market of security-conscious "Citizen Responders" who could be connected to information-rich, 2-way, mobile alert systems. If connected, they could receive early warning alerts, instructions on how to best respond, and if on the scene, they could add eyes and ears to the local ER team.

Working with 1st Responders, ELERTS™ designed a system that uses smart phones and social media to help them to expand the reach of their existing ER systems and improve the quality and timeliness of emergency communications. With ELERTS™, 1st Responders can make better decisions and deploy resources faster - getting people out of harm's way and saving lives.

The Benefits of ELERTS™

ELERTS™ can benefit all who respond to emergencies.

Schools: Given the dense, enclosed environment of a high school or college campus, and the proliferation of smart phone usage by students, ELERTS™ is ideally suited for emergency response by educational institutions. Students, faculty and administrators can help campus security forces assess situations and quickly spread the word about how to take appropriate action. And students can use ELERTS™ to let parents know they are safely out of harm's way.

Media: With ELERTS™ apps in the hands of hundreds if not thousands of local citizens in towns and cities across America, TV, Radio and Newspaper reporters gain access to visual reports from emergency scenes, providing them with immediate, live content. By promoting the power of crowd-sourced emergency information to help 1st Responders, media are serving the public good, and by giving credit to the "citizen reporters" they draw viewers into content-creation, building more engaged audiences.

Utilities: Electric, gas, water, even cable companies respond to virtually every emergency - fires, transportation accidents, extreme weather events all involve interruptions of service that must be restored. Getting immediate, content-rich information means utility managers have a more accurate assessment of the scope of damage and the sources of interruptions, and can make the best use of personnel, securing sites and restoring service faster.

State and Local EMA: Tasked with warning the public and coordinating emergency response across an array of independent agencies, and with little or no field staff, they must rely on other 1st Responders (who are usually busy with their own tasks) to report in on incidents. Gaining immediate access to information from any and all on the scene will greatly enhance their ability to evaluate situations, make decisions, and contact the agencies required for response.
